Bed Bugs
Bed Bug Pest Control
At First Pest Control, we provide expert bed bug extermination using specialist bed bug steam, ultra low volume (ULV) treatment and residual insecticides to completely eliminate infestations.
Common Bed Bug
The main species responsible for infestations in UK homes, hotels, and businesses.
Tropical Bed Bug
Similar in behaviour to the Common Bed Bug. Less common but increasing in the UK.
How we deal with Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are by far the most stubborn pest anyone can have in their house. We offer two levels of service when it comes to bed bugs & whilst we appreciate the triple treatment doesn’t suit everyone’s budget, it is the recommended treatment for bed bugs.
Quick turnaround treatments. We know a bed bug problem cannot wait, especially for hotels, guest houses, care homes and landlords who need rooms back in use. We offer quick turnaround treatments, work around your bookings and changeovers wherever possible, and tell you exactly when a room can be used again.
We use a number of different methods for control within the triple treatment which is described below.
Residual Insecticide
It’s also important that the product contains an ‘insect growth regulator’ (IGR). This is an additive to certain insecticides and works by keeping the insect in a juvenile state, so it can never reach sexual maturity to breed. This disrupts the lifecycle of the insect and stops breeding effectively.
The insecticides we use have what we call residual value. This means that the product will continue to work anywhere from two weeks to nine months depending on which product we use at the time and the type of flooring it’s being applied to.
Ultra low Volume (ULV)
It works by emitting airborne droplets between 5-30 microns. This enables the insecticide to penetrate inaccessible areas in loft spaces and behind furniture. It’s ideal for bed bugs as part of the triple treatment to complement the other two applications. Unlike the residual insecticide, ULV has no lasting effects. After a few hours it has completely settled into tiny cracks and crevices and done its job killing all insects it meets.
Cimex Eradicator (Thermal Shock)
DIY Pest Control
Bed bugs are very difficult, and often impossible, to clear with off-the-shelf products bought online. We have been to homes where the carpets in children’s bedrooms were covered in ant powder after people tried to deal with the problem themselves. Many DIY treatments are not just ineffective; they can be dangerous and often make the infestation worse by driving bed bugs deeper into the property.
Please don’t use insecticides bought online, whether sprays, aerosols or smoke bombs. They are unlikely to work on bed bugs, and you could be exposing yourself and your family to harmful chemicals without realising.
When you speak to a pest control company, ask which products they will use and how the treatment works. The insecticide should contain an insect growth regulator (IGR) and be mixed at the correct rate for the level of infestation. Ask questions, and if you are not happy with the answers, call a different company.
